Timber Creek Lodge is a central assembly place and a focus of activity for the residents and guests of Sun City Roseville. With it's ten year anniversary looming, Sun City retained Western Contract to freshen the look of the public spaces while maintaining the warmth and versatility of the original design.
Our
Challenge
Western Contract's design team worked very closely with Sun City's design committee to determine a unique set of requirements and constraints due to the nature of the Lodge's occupants and users. As an active lifestyle community, an early concern for the team was to choose furnishings that were not only stylish, comfortable and functional, but must be easy to get into and out of.
The design committee also wanted furniture, fabric and finishes to reflect the most current approaches in residential and hospitality design without being trendy or dated.
Our
Solution
Western Contract's design team opted to apply the Arts and Crafts / Mission style to the project, lending the spaces a timeless grace without detracting from the architectural drama. Materials were specified in a variety of fabrics, leathers and patterns to provide interest, durability and easy maintainability. Furniture was carefully arranged in the space plan to facilitate conversation in an often-busy interior.
The use of custom-designed carpet was an opportunity to introduce color in a restrained fashion, applying earth tones and patterns derived from the surrounding landscape to unite the interior with the outside world. Furnishings in the lobby were arranged into conversational groupings to separate the large dramatic space into cozy areas to socialize. Great care was taken not to block the views onto the outdoor patio or the trees beyond. A "Wall Street" room is used by an investors club along with other residents, and is designed to facilitate meetings as well as provide secure access to the club's computer.
